At the start of the new academic year, local pre-schools
and nurseries have been using Nutley, an Acorn’s Adventure as a resource to
support the children’s learning about Autumn.
I have had some wonderful reviews and feedback from the
settings. The children have really enjoyed ‘wobbling’ with Nutley, which has
helped bring the story to life and allowed the children to add a physical
element to their story time. Sitting alongside a discovery table, or a tuff
tray full of Autumn leaves, conkers and acorns, my book has also supported
children’s imagination and understand of the world around them.
My book has been read to children ranging from 6 months
old to 4 years old. Regardless of the age range, children have given
positive reactions to the story, showing they are enjoying the story line and
pictures by giving their attention, smiling during the story and pointing out
elements of the pictures.
Nutley has also sparked ideas for other activities. One setting has made acorns with play dough and another has painted cut-outs of acorns, creating an Autumn banner for their nursery room.
