I have recently been thinking how Nutley, An Acorn’s
Adventure, could be used in Nurseries, Pre-schools, Reception classes and
Forest Schools, as well as in homes.
A wonderful resource that can really bring a book to
life is a Story Sack. This is basically a cloth bag that contains the book, but
also resources to support the story. Puppets, small world characters or actual
items (for Nutley’s Story Sack, maybe acorns and oak leaves) can be used. There
could also be games, puzzles or other books that are linked to the theme of the
Story Sack as these would create more learning opportunities for the children.
Having done some internet research, I found a free
crochet pattern which was a PDF. I emailed this to my Mum and this is what she
created (see photo).
At nearly 80 years old, my Mum amazes me how creative
and able she still is. She had never used such a small crochet needle for a
project before and I think you’ll agree that the stitching is wonderful. So,
thank you so much Mum (Sally Pullin) for creating a little crochet Nutley for a
Story Sack.
Now I am going to try to create some oak leaves using
felt and a Robin of some kind – which me luck!
Why not try putting together a Story Sack for your
child’s favourite book, or one for Nutley?
